Re: A whine and complain thread

Ouch. My director took me aside today to inform me that all my students hate me, I'm responsible for three of them leaving and I have to change entirely. Now, I'm trying to improve my relationship with them, but my mediocre powers of foresight are sufficient to tell me that it's not going to work. T...

Re: A whine and complain thread

Oh me oh my my students are not fans of mine. I'm too boring! I suspected this would be the case because I'm not terribly good at interacting with kids between the ages of, say six to sixteen. I try to be animated and keep them involved, but the kind of high-energy, clownish character they seem to l...

Yeah, that seems to be basically it. Not a dreadful outcome, but disappointing! Oh well.

Re: BLURT thread

I feel bad if my claims of character-lousiness were misconstrued so as to cause embarrassment! No embarrassment is necessary; I simply observe that I am the protagonist of this universe, and am therefore automatically invested with scads of character. Like any great historical writer, I feel charact...

Re: BLURT thread

What country is she from? If she's also a Westerner, you can probably rely on your own intuition for gauging her interest. But if she's Korean, she may have an entirely different concept of how flirting and courting are supposed to go. In Sudan, for example, it's expected that a woman will turn a m...

Re: BLURT thread

Who remembers my whinge about a girl from work turning me down in Thailand? Well, here's a similar thing, but in Korea! Okay so last week I met a girl at a bar and we got along (by my reckoning) pretty well. We talked for a while (until I had to run off to find a missing friend) and seemed to hit it...

Re: A whine and complain thread

That's a relief. I've never had to deal with floods, although they seem to happen in various parts of the UK every year now. At least we don't have basements in my town, I guess? I assume basements add a whole extra layer of problem.

Ominous!

I'm not sure exactly how people go about finding friends in these places. I guess I'll go to the one foreigner bar I'm aware of and... I dunno. I may have to approach people, which I hate.

Re: A whine and complain thread

Well Japan was lovely. Anyone who should chance to visit Fukuoka would be wise to try Hakata ramen. It's good ramen. So the visa run was fine, and now I have a visa. I have to have a medical check and get some manner of alien registration card, but that's whatever. Now the only challenge is dealing ...

I am currently in Japan obtaining a visa! Hopefully this will go well and then the only thing to worry about will be the small issue of living and working in South Korea. Let's see how this pans out!

Re: A whine and complain thread

Well they had scans of most of the documents anyway but when I asked them whether I could send anything else they just asked for a scan of the contract. So I assume they didn't have a use for scans and needed the physical documents.

They arrived today though, so hopefully it'll work out alright.

Re: A whine and complain thread

Blurgh I have a job offer from Korea and it's at super short notice. I took my documents to the FedEx office and the guy said '4 days, £75. Have you looked at Royal Mail?' So I looked at Royal Mail: 5 working days, £8.70. Took it. It still hasn't arrived. I'm supposed to be starting on June 1st. I'm...

Re: Video Game Stuff

I tried Magicka: Wizard Wars! It's hugely disappointing. Free to play, you see. And the tutorial begins and ends with 'how to heal yourself'. The next step is to enter a game, with the introduction: 'Kill enemies to collect souls! Souls weaken the opponent's Effigy!', and that's it. Then my team los...

These robots seem to be highly focused on my old posts. Perhaps they see my username and think I am of their kind. Perhaps they read the things I say and think I am wonderful. Most likely, both.

Re: Video Game Stuff

I've been playing Xenonauts! It's basically X-Com, made new for the 21st century (but not as new-for-the-21st-century as the other XCom). Very almost the same thing, with some tweaks to make it nice to play. It is excellent. The bullhonky is juuuust about at the limit of what I can tolerate, but tha...

Hagwons have a reputation for ...

Hmmmmm. After perusing the contract with care, I don't think I like it very much. I've replied to them with my concerns and a new, rewritten contract will fall into my inbox in the future. I still suspect it won't be something I want. Never mind. I can continue my search.

Who has a 3DS by the way? I am seeking friends for my friend safari in Pokemans Y, but I don't want to register random strangers from the internet! I feel like that would be tricking the system. My friend code is 1435-6228-7304 and my friend safari is apparently packed to the gills with terrible Ice...
