Re: Math(s)

is she.... makking babby? SHOW YOUR WORK! think about it for a while prior to writing a program to find the answer for you. If you solve the problem this way, indicate how many calculations were necessary to get your answer. I messed around with the numbers and couldn't figure it out in ten minutes...

Here's a good one you may have heard before: A mother is 21 years older than her son. In six years, she will be five times as old as her son. What is she doing right now?

Re: Math(s)

syg... I think your problem is that h(y)=3-y and not y. h(y) is the depth of the water as a function of y, and it looks like you're measuring y to be 0 at the bottom of the tank and 3 feet at the top. The depth of the water is 3 feet at the bottom of the tank and 0 at the top. So 3-y. (The sanity ch...

Yes, it's a good thing this isn't how it works, or just imagine how many human-Kleenex hybrids there'd be.

Re: Isn't this a dandy show!

I'm thinking of roughness and unreasonableness as continuous quantities (with continuous probability distributions), and thus every person will almost surely have a unique level of roughity and nonreasonitude. So there's hardly any chance that any population would contain even two people who tie for...

Re: Isn't this a dandy show!

How do you determine who the world's roughest least reasonable man is? I'd imagine there'd only be one least reasonable man, and then that person would automatically be the roughest least reasonable man (and also the least rough least reasonable man). Are there a large number of men who tie for leas...

Why do the upscale hotels charge à la carte for Internet access? It's not like it's particularly great Internet access that you want to pay more for. It's not like they make you pay a per-day fee to use the swimming pool, or something. Why they do this? Screw nice hotels. Screw them.

Re: A whine and complain thread

My uncle has been denied a visa to visit the US for 3 days to attend my brother's wedding. Reason? His name is too scary for the so-called powerful United States to handle. THANKS TERRORISTS SUCKTASTIC but now I'm imagining his name to be something like Uncle Splodey McGonnablowupstuff. Poor Unca S...

Re: Math(s)

So you're trying to come up with a non-divinely-inspired way of getting that ∫cot²θdθ = -θ-cotθ? Well, I would probably do something like u=cotθ=cosθ/sinθ, du= (-1-cot²θ)dθ = -(1+u²)dθ ∫cot²θdθ becomes -∫u²/(1+u²) du -∫(1+u²-1)/(1+u²) du ∫1/(1+u²) du-∫(1+u²)/(1+u²) du tan⁻¹u -∫ du tan⁻¹u - u tan⁻¹co...
