The log looks as if it's been cut with a chainsaw, most likely by a lumberjack. It is sad for the beavers, realizing they have such fierce competition from man. Wait til they see the Hoover Dam. Oh, those poor beavers.

Don't you find that a lot of Stevenf's comics are straight literal interpretations of the spam lines? And if I'm not mistaken, doesn't that mean that they... might... ned, a bit? Just to start from the top, beaver news, Three Legged Babes Show off Their Tools!, and more that I can't find right now tend to be pretty much just literal interpretations. Don't get me wrong, they're funny to look at, but alot of the stuff that Stevenf posts gets greeted with praise and lauding whereas if some forum n00b posted it, people would reference Luis and send him packing.

Just an observation.

Don't kill me.

(PS: Stevenf, I love the bulk of your work!)

I did notice that going through the archive today. I think in our guest spamusements, we have taken them in a different direction than stevenf's. See... I like and liked them all. I think they're in a class of their own.

This is one of the major problems with all this ned nonsense. Being literal is not in itself a problem. If the delivery's good enough, it can still be sufficiently funny.

See, this is exactly why I haven't commented on this comic yet. I think it kinda neds. But, as the saying goes, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all -- a rule which, of course, doesn't apply to the Guest Strips forum.

I agree with Brian. Stevenf's drawings are quite literal sometimes, but they're still hilarious.

And, I agree with James. It's the execution of the drawing that makes a difference.

Like the "Luis neds a card" picture. Pure example of "way-too-literal."

Lately I've been scared of making spamusements because I'm afraid of being called too literal. :cry:

Quite right. There's nothing wrong with being literal as long as the drawing still makes you laugh. I love that the news story is about a log, what else would be on the beaver news.

(p.s. - am I the only one who was hoping that the comic would be dirtier? Now that would be an interesting news program)

I like it. It looks, to me, like someone put the beaver in the suit and sat it at the desk. The beaver looks confused and frightened. Poor guy, I kinda feel sorry for him.
