Banners!

Do you want to contribute your art to the banner at the top of the website? Before we get too far into this, remember that we have several different board styles available and they all have different looks and available space. When this thread was first posted there was only a single banner image per style but I am in the process of putting in code to all the styles that rotates through all available images for each style.

Note that I don't plan on changing the Milky Way style but I've included it in the list to show you the sort of drawings I'm expecting.

OK, instead of that confusing specs page, below are the basic patterns for each style that you can work from to make your own banners.

Preferred format is 24-bit PNG but will also accept 8-bit PNG or a GIF with a transparent background. If you have trouble with those you may start from the non-transparent version and submit a BMP and I’ll convert it.

You are also allowed to make your banner wider and to move the text around. For those styles that have text, that is.

Banner Patterns
Spamuser
This is the default style and so it is what is seen by casual viewers.


prosilver
This is the old default style and so is still seen by a lot of viewers. Note that the "Skip to content" text in the lower left corner needs to stay where it is, although you may mess around with it (draw around or on top of it).


subsilver2 and SkyLineBlue
These two have identical size requirements so they'll share their banner art. Start from the first (transparent) image or one of the two non-transparent images below.


Hestia
Just because there's a box there doesn't mean you have to stay within the lines.

Each style name links to the old image file that was used for that style.

Oh, and pics do not have to be Eggplant Mike. While inclusion of classic Spamusement characters is appreciated it is not required.

EDIT: Also, wasn't there a "Spamuser"-style with the avatars on the left, like they should be, in development at some point? There ought to be a style like that.

OK, so I decided to work on the rotating banner code. First, I found a set of four (ahem) "beloved" characters from classic spamusements and cropped or shrank them to the right height. Then I spent an hour or so debugging the rotate code, or rather adding sufficient error messages until I figured out what it didn't like so I could fix it. Anyway, temporarily change your board style to "proglass" to see it in action. Then change it back to normal because really who thought of that style? Yuck.

But yeah, if you did get round to it, a Spamusers style with the stuff on the left hand side would be absolutely fantastic. It's a brilliant style.

Oh she's there alright. I'm guessing that OP Tipping just didn't feel like temporarily changing his board style, which is fine. NO TOILET WOMAN FOR YOU!

OK, I've updated Prosilver theme to have a rotating image as well. I took most of the items from the proglass test and simply reused them. I also included the "Skip to content" link in the image itself so you'll need to include that.

EDIT: Removed pattern images and moved them to the first post.
