Hey, apparently they played this on NPR this morning. I say "apparently" because I didn't hear it on the radio, but I did get fourteen gazillion emails and phone calls about it.

Yes, that's me. I like that my "um"s and "er"s surivived the editing process. Exac-huh-huh-tly.

That was a pretty cool story. Now it's got me trying to think back to if there was any starting moment like that for when I got interested in science as a career (wildlife management counts as science, right?)

Indeed it has. What I love about this story is that it's a 34-year-old me being interviewed about an essay written 16 years prior by an 18-year-old me about a mental state experienced 16 years prior by a 2-year-old me. So it's pretty much hearsay at this point. How could someone tell the difference between a true memory of an actual long-ago experience and a periodically revisited (and possibly revised) anecdote? I'll let the 50-year-old me answer that.

Memory is a subject I'm pretty interested by, and its nature is something that fascinates me. One thing I keep mentioning is how I can be trying to remember something, initially being unable to remember it, then becoming unsure, then realizing that the unsureness is probably just the product of my trying to remember, and that that imagined memory is taking the place of an actual one. Also the whole memory-is-a-reconstructive-process thing. Very interesting; talked about it before; won't bore everyone with it.

Congratulations on radiodom! It's more significant than any of my little attempts at fame!
