Is it annoying that everyone refers to it as Holland, or is it OK because it's the football team?

CHOICE C: Is it OK because you're from Amsterdam? I hear people from the non-Holland parts of the Netherlands get more annoyed about that whole thing.

Can't bear Spain. Horrible, boring team, playing to get the opposition booked and sent off. That said, the Dutch were pretty compliant.

Felt sorry for the referee. Tried to do it with common sense, but the players really took the piss.

regardless, can't really argue the result. Should have been 1-1 going into the extra time regardless, and the goal was such that it likely would have occured regardless of an extra dutch player. The only thing I thought that was done really poorly was not awarding a corner off that last dutch free kick, and maybe a red card for the ridiculous chest-stomp by de jong.

By the way, here's something from before the game when they mysteriously turned the cameras away from the pitch and World Cup:

Hope that podium was sturdy... At least his cause wasn't idiotic like his actions.

That was one of the least clean games I've seen. I feel like the officials' decisions for cards/penalties was a little sketchy. As one of the commentators said, the tackle happened while he was watching, play continued, then stopped, and then 45 seconds later it was a yellow card?

I'm not saying that the ref didn't have a hard time with the force the teams were playing with, but stop and think about what you're doing.

I still think that Germany had the best chance to defeat Spain, and probably would have done so if Müller hadn't been out for that ridiculous handball call. But hey, he still gets the golden boot, right?

Also, was that podium incident before the start of extra time? My set was just displaying a black screen for about 30-45 seconds.

That yellow you're talking about 45 seconds later was for arguing.

I, too, am curious about what that incident took place.

I say Holland instead of Neatherlands because in Mexico that's what they call the team in TV. I am very dissapointed in the whole match, I expected more excitement and not at all so many yellow cards. It was a pretty boring game until the last few minutes.

I'm hungry.

Oh, regarding de Jong's apparent karate kick style thing, I think the referee called that right. He was at least going for the ball, but he was guilty of high foot and what happened is pretty much the reason why it's a booking for that. It looked pretty awful though. Van Bommel on the other hand is a nasty so-and-so and one or two of his challenges had no intention of going through the ball, their main aim was to take out whoever was in possession.

I don't even feel totally confident he was going for the ball 100%, and it honestly looks worse each time I see it.

for those who missed it:

Just watch it a few times, then on the last time, watch only Xavi's spine.

Like I say, it looks bad, but while the Dutch set out to be cynical, I don't think that any of their players would think to deliberately have a good old fashioned stamp on somebody's chest.

I was referring to the first yellow card on Heitinga before. They should really have some sort of record for the reason they get the cards.

There is, so far as I'm aware, not that they're ever made public. Referees have to write a report on each game and hand it in to their superiors - most games are watched by a referees' assessor, or at least they are in this country. I knew one, he had a pass that allowed him to go to any game he wanted for free.

So yeah, where's my prize and glory all?

Do I get something for second, then?

Yeah, I know they write it down, but it should be publicly available.

Also, I finally got to watching the Consolation match last night. Wonderfully played, and much more exciting than the final. I'm sure Germany's lineup screwed up most people's points. I really think Schweinsteiger should have gotten the Bronze Ball instead of Villa. Honestly, Villa didn't do much other than score.
