How does points things work with Japan and the shootout?

I think they are still figuring that out, cause I have 0 points and 0 appearances for Honda.

My Japanese defender (Nagatomo) when I click on him says he should have 4 points when they update it, and still nothing for Honda when I click on him.

I wouldn't have expected you to get any points, as they're not goals as such.
Still, I played soccer for years without understanding a lot of the rules, so what do I know?
I was late trading my players, too. Thanks for the warning Chrism. I haven't been online much lately.
:( Unhappy.

COME ON ARGENTINA

Brazil/Netherlands game was about what I expected. But come on, what happened in the second half Brazil? A complete reversal of play by both sides. Sure, Robben's a ham, but really Melo? Whatever, I get some good points from the match.

I hope Melo had some escort after the match.

I always thought a handball that saves a goal was given as a goal for the team not a penalty kick, or at least that it could. Wouldn't that one be the prime candidate? Too bad for Ghana...

Ouch, I just saw the replay and came on here ONLY TO POST ABOUT IT. That was dreadful. Thierry Henry is the second-worst man in the World Cup.

Pointless handball anyway, seeing as it likely would have smacked him in the face.

Twist it the other way: a heroic tale of extraordinary self-sacrifice. Suarez knows that he must now miss the semi-final, but he has passed this opportunity up so that his country might have another shot at getting their. They did, the sacrifice paid off, national glory beckons. I remember a few years back Stoke playing in a play-off game against Gillingham (it might have been the year after against Walsall actually) and an opposition player had broken through right at the end of the game and was bearing down on goal. Ben Petty (a really, really crap player) had just been brought on for Stoke as a substitute and gave chase. He couldn't catch up and so just pulled him down outside the box. He got himself sent off, but saved the team because he would almost certainly have scored and the only penalty was a free kick. If it was against Gillingham, then the favour got returned in the second leg, where the referee...ugh.

Oh ok, I'm being lenient because I tipped Uruguay to win the World Cup in spite of all the odds. I don't know though, everyone knows the rules, Gyan should have put Ghana through.

I thought the Ghana/Uruguay game was well officiated compared to the others. I found myself not knowing who I was fully backing whilst watching the game. Long before the game decided that the amount of yellows and loss of Ayew would probably keep them out of the semifinals.

My name requirements have proven, predictably, to be my undoing. I now have six players left in the tournament. If Germany and Spain go out, I'm toast. I'll be left with only a Dutchman to my name.

Not that I'm not already toast, of course. I'm over one hundred points behind pole position.

You realise that everyone who's in the semifinals still plays from now on right?

Ah yes, of course. Third place.

Well anyway, my hope for this upcoming match is that Spain score many goals and yet Germany keep a clean sheet. We'll see how it pans out.

Well, I'm sure you'll have a lot of suport from the French themselves...

Also, gf may have just passed me, but I'm glad I'm still beating Will Potts.

I'm kind of excited to see a new country win a world cup! I'm pulling for Holland.

I prefer Holland. Octopus says Spain though, and the footballers obey the octopus.

Also Spain has a much better team. We'll see though, because they always do and they have always lost (though to be fair they've never gotten this far before, so this year could be different).

Holland - hmmm. Very good flair players in Robben and Sneijder, but the team as a whole haven't really turned it on.

Spain - the most boring team in the Universe. Imagine playing on a football computer game with somebody new who doesn't know where the shoot button is and just keeps pressing short pass instead. Bore the opposition into submission and score at the end. Oh, and the players have strangely placed centres of gravity that cause them to fall over all the time. I hope they get absolutely massacred. I do so hate that style of football.

Yeah, worst World Cup for a good time. Terrible football, people queueing up to praise the most boring team in history because they have a couple of ex-Livepool players and a horrible little man who plays for the most despicable team in England, vuvuzelas, vuvuzelas being imported into other countries, ridiculously over-rated England team (more so than usual, seeing as they are quite seriously the worst England side for about 20 years, Capello was shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic) and amateurish TV coverage from both stations.

Are there any other sporting events coming up where we could have a fantasy team competition? When does the gridiron season start, or baseball, or something like that?

I would totally join a fantasy league of either of those sports. Or I guess we could do a not-world-cup football one, but the trouble with league things is that folks will be all droppin' out and such. Ain't not many peoples gonna be maintaining interest for a whole season.

I will set up one for hockey if anyone is interested. That starts in October. The Canadian Football league started last weekend, but maybe there's a pool for that. nobody would no anything about anyone, lol.
