Ye Quest for Sexy Songs

Postby EsBe » Mon Feb 27, 2012 1:56 am

Spamusers assemble, I need your help. As per the title, I am in in search of songs that are sexually suggestive, lewd, or really anywhere on that spectrum. Here is the scoop: I occasionally run Audiosurf competitions in which I compile a playlist of 10-12 songs and release them over the course of a couple months. Up until now I have never done any particular theme, other than picking songs that I think go well together, but I have decided to go with a theme this time, which is love and lust (more lust, really). Objective is to have participants not realize there is a theme until they're knee deep in innuendo.

This is my list of song candidates thus far:
Devo - March On
Queen - Brighton Rock
Bob Dylan - Had a Dream About You Baby (This is coincidentally one of my favorite songs.)
Electric Six - I'm the Bomb
Bonnie Raitt - Burning Down the House (When I first heard this, I totally figured it was thinly veiled innuendo. I did not realize that it was a cover of a Talking Heads song (which I don't particularly like) with nonsensical lyrics. I'm keeping it on the list on the basis that Bonnie Raitt is simply a babe and it rubs off on everything she does. :D)
T.Rex - Get It On
<-- This is where I start running out of songs. -->
Proto-Dome - Fill Me Up with Snacky Happiness
Michael Franti - Love Me Unique

That gap in the playlist is where my own collection of music falls short. I need something that can segue between the likes of Bonnie Raitt and T.Rex, and the mischievous misuse of sampled videogame sounds. Hopefully some of your music libraries are less pathetic than mine. :P Lay some sexy tunes on me so I can finally wrap this up.

(Related: anyone interested in an Audiosurf event/competition/whatever?)

Prince - Do It All Night
Prince - Do Me, Baby
Prince - Little Red Corvette
Prince - Darling Nikki
Prince - Get Off
etc.
James - Laid

I didn't read you whole post, sorry, but those are what popped into my head from the first two sentences. I'll try and think more later.

"Je veux te voir" by Yelle would be a fun one to throw in there, being that it's in French but it's quite direct on your topic. In English, there's "Tell you twice" by Wil, "Just Sixteen" by Velvet Revolver, "Barely Legal" by The Strokes, "Bodies" by Savoir Adore, "Gay Messiah" by Rufus Wainright... I worked backwards to "R" and I'll try to do more tomorrow :)

And very obvious in my head was "A Cautionary Tale" by The Decembrists, which I almost forgot to write.

"Real Cool Time" by The Stooges.

"Boom" by Flight of the Conchords.

"Baptize Me" from The Book of Mormon.

Not so subtle:

"Penetration" by The Stooges.

"Let's Spend the Night Together" by The Rolling Stones or David Bowie.

"Orgasm Addict" by The Buzzcocks.

I have not listened to all of these yet, but
jvcc wrote:"Baptize Me" from The Book of Mormon.

Hah, that is the best thing I have heard all day. Way better than The Tennis Song, for sure. (Though it's a dang good show anyway.)

chrismachine wrote:"Bodies" by Savoir Adore

I am digging this tune.

Binkatron5000 wrote:Am I too late?

Hardly, I haven't been able to rustle up more than 6 people at a time to participate. So for the moment it's more of an academic exercise.

I meant to edit my post and include that one, along with "Rape Me" by Nirvana and "The Bad Touch" by Bloodhound Gang.

Lovage - Book Of The Month (actually their whole album is nothing but sexual innuendo, this is just one of my favorite tracks)

Side note: Tom Jones and The Cardigans did a version of "Burning Down The House" too, and they also ended up making it sound sexual. I guess it's all in how you emphasize things like "All wet, yeah, you might need a raincoat" or even "Gonna come in first place".

Also, I hate to lead you into internet quicksand, but maybe Tv Tropes can help?

Damnit, every time someone links to TV Tropes I wake up hung over 7 hours later on the floor of a bus heading to Iowa.

At least this one is showing Spaceballs on the TVs.

That whole album was actually pretty decent. The cover of Motherless child was among my favorite songs for like a year and a half.

Speaking of songs on a particular topic, any suggestions for songs for a compilation CD of travel-related songs? I'm taking a brief vacation for spring break with a buddy.

So far I have the CD beginning with "For Reasons Unknown" by The Killers because it talks about packing a suitcase and leaving town, then "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman because we'll be in a car and it will be exciting, but then we transition into "The Passenger" by Iggy and become more introspective, by the time we reach "The World at Large" by Modest Mouse we're just moving from place to place aimlessly, and then we finish with the same band's "Out of Gas" and reach our destination very depressed. But we can then listen to the CD backwards on the drive home. Or I may change the narrative it's telling based on song suggestions.

OH, I need "All Along the Watchtower" because it's used in the road trip scene in Withnail and I.

For a song about travel in a very roundabout way, I would enjoy Susan's Gone.

Also Tangled Up In Blue, but I wouldn't settle for anything other than a live performance by Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead (which is way better than when just Dylan or just Jerry does it). There used to be a Youtube of it (a camcorder shot of a TV airing a staticky broadcast) but it was pulled. :( Search for Bob Dylan Grateful Dead Kennedy Stadium Philadelphia 1987. I know there's a website that compiles live recordings of old performances but I can't remember the name.

edit: at the end of that performance set is Dylan & the Dead doing All Along the Watchtower (but it's not exactly spot on, as they sound kind of exhausted at that point).

edit edit: and I nearly forgot Two of Us.

I was mesmerized by that landscape being painted until he or she added the large rocks in the foreground which just looked like the alien from the movie Alien to me.

A while ago I accidentally bought Dylan's album John Wesley Harding on iTunes because I was trying to buy whatever album Hendrix's version of the song is on. But it turned out alright because I hadn't really listened to much by Dylan before.

EsBe wrote:edit edit: and I nearly forgot Two of Us.

That could fit in to my CD nicely.
