I tend not to respect aesthetic casing of proper nouns. I think my internal reasoning, such that it is, is that if there isn't an initial capital it won't stand out sufficiently, and if an initialism has only an initial capital it'll look like it's supposed to be pronounceable as a word. I also don't respect the PlayStation marketing team's insistence that it always be rendered in all-caps, because that's marketing bullhonky of the foulest flavour. Well, not even close. But it's still pretty foul marketing bullhonky. Do note, however, that I do render PlayStation, like BlackBerry with intercaps, because I'm an inconsistent idiot. And for a long time I would present the band Clouddead's name as they initially did, in inverse caps (i.e. cLOUDDEAD), because I'm a real moron.
I recently read an article fairly academic in tone, but written entirely in Livejournal case (i.e. no caps at all, because capital letters are ugly or something). I was surprised at how frustrating I found it, and how often I found myself questioning why someone would choose to do this. Which is funny, because some of the first websites I made were very much of the all-Verdana no-caps variety.
Very funny.
