Second One Sentence at a Time Spamusement Story

Postby jvcc » Tue Dec 22, 2015 3:12 pm

We did one of these a while ago, and it was a lot of fun.

The rules are rather simple: write one sentence at a time to propel the story forward.

I'll begin with the same sentence I used last time, slightly edited so the prose is less overwrought:

The rain pounded in sync with the beating of my heart.

It was dark, it was bleak, it was.. New York.

It got into my shoes, and also my gloves.

THUS FAR:

The rain pounded in sync with the beating of my heart.
Couldn't breathe, couldn't blink; had to wait for it to start.
It was dark, it was bleak, it was . . . New York.

Suddenly golden light so bright shone from above.
It got into my shoes and also my gloves.

A bit down the road I got to a fork.
I picked it up and used it to eat some pork.

(Just so y'all know, we currently have an AAB CC BB rhyme scheme goin' on here.)

"Pavement pork is rotten", I boldly declared.

Then the mantis in the sky said "be not scared."

(I was really hoping for AAB CCB DDB...)

I tried to look unfettered as I then more quickly walked.

(Is there any reason why?)

"No more of this rhyming bullhonky," the mantis decreed, reaching forward with its prominent front legs to block the path in front of me.

(I was hoping for AAB CC BBD EE DDF, etc.)

'You can't instruct me not to rhyme, not this time; I'll rhyme any time I have the time to rhyme!', I rhymed breathlessly, unsheathing my bill.

A minute passed as I gazed into the giant iridescent spheres of The Mantis, and shyly spake, "You don't in...int...intimidate me with your size, now tell why you lured me here with porky!"

The mantis looked at me, shrugged, headbutted a skyscraper into submission and then melted into the pavement.

As I looked down at my mantis-soaked socks, I started to wade through the rubble as I carried on my way.

But the rubble started pulling me in, like quicksand, until it was up to my chest.

I awoke in a dimly lit room with one window, out of breath and sweating from the experience.

I then came to my senses and confirmed that it was, in fact, all very real.

Then, as I more closely examined the rubble, the answer became clear; it was all made out of nerf-type foam.

I spat to determine which way was down and, by extension, which was up; having settled the matter, I began to dig toward the latter direction furiously.

To my bemusement, my saliva hovered in front of my eyes, making microscopic movements in no particular direction.
