Pondicherry is an intersection of two universes, a spot where dualism is shown at its best through the pilgrim division of the Old Town into White and Black, French and Tamil. It is a community that has a delightful amalgamation of contemporary and provincial, gluttonous and otherworldly, quiet and disorderly. There are a lot of spots to visit in Pondicherry where the past and the present superbly coincide. Very few urban communities in India can profess to be so minimal but then so cosmopolitan—the ex-pats, individuals are drawn by the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, French residents, old Pondicherrians, new pioneers—all flourish cheerfully right now.
