The second sofa is not actually there for sitting, which is why the overhanging furniture is less problematic. it is a pull out futon which is there for when i am extremely ill and do not want to keep Jason up all night. That entire room is animal-proofed and there for the sole purpose of animal storage, so it would be silly to have a nice couch in there.
