... Given the overwhelmingly positive response to this skit, and how it entered the collective subconscious, I figured something good must have finally come out of modern SNL. Apparently, I was being far too optimistic. x.x; "Needs more cowbell" needs more funny. x.x;

Uhm... It's not in the sort of categories I usually listen to, near as I understand musical categories. I recognized it in that skit because it was in the game Prey. So... no, I don't really _know_ the song.

Chris Walken is funny because he does crap no one expects him to. He's unpredictable. When I saw The Rundown (I know, I apologize), I was disgusted. They not only ruined the movie, but they ruined his character. But in the deleted scenes, there's a scene where he falls to the ground, and a pig just walks up to him. He lifts his head, and says ". . .Pig." And collapses.

Things like that are why Walken is awesome. So hearing him talk like that in the cowbell skit is funny because it's so strange coming from an established actor (seriously, in the last three months, I've probably seen 4 different movies he's been in). But without that mindset, the skit blows.

I guess the skit is funny, not for the reason it was intended to be, but because it accidentally pierced the veil and crossed over from the usual SNL absurdity into actual mind-warping surreality.

From watching the old "classic" SNL bits, it seems like that's always been where the real gold came from. Bass-o-matic? Dumbest f@cking thing you've ever seen. But it goes down in history as the awesomest awesomeness in the history of awe.
