This time of year can be very stressful. It is for me, but I just push that aside as much as I can. I do like cooking the things that my family enjoys so much.

So much to do this time of year, but the most stressful part is the trip to Connecticut to see extended family. I have a sister who most of the time drinks too much.. lots of bad stuff in her life and she lets it get the better of her. The drive there at this time of year can be a killer and my husband absolutely hates that.

What is it about this time of year that you hate??
As a non-Christian, it's really annoying, mostly. If I need to run to the maul (intentional misspelling) to get a new pair of jeans, I don't want to fight with 23423242342342 other people to find a parking space. I can't even go to Petsmart to get dog food this time of year.

That's only the superficial stuff.

Last year, as I was leaving work (I work at a Synagogue) I got people yelling at me, my kids, and my students about how the Jesus Killers should shut up and celebrate the birth (along with a few other lovely things that I've tried to block out.)

And of course there's the sitting with family you don't really want to see and smiling and pretending you love them all part...
Made ya look.

Oh, the wonderful Defense of Christmas jihad. You kind of have to respect the depth of cynicism it takes to mobilize people to demand more crass commercialization of their faith.

At least, I have to.

So I can look at pictures later and see how poorly reality compares to what I thought was going on?

OR SO I CAN BLACKMAIL MY FRIENDS.

I like the way I think.

It wouldn't be the same dropping acid in the desert without Beavis and Butthead being there.

Oh, and I love Christmas time. It excites me. Except, this year, it's not making me as happy as it usually does.

Yeah, but they'd also say that excessively early decorations are a symptom of the commercialisation of Christmas, which is corrupting the religious meaning of the festival.

Being an atheist, I find it annoying for purely selfish reasons.

No, that wouldn't help anything.

But I hate it when Christmas starts the day after Halloween. I blame it on President Bush!

I love this time of year. Getting together with family is great. I'm gonna spend Thanksgiving with my fiance's family. The only thing that annoys me about Thanksgiving is that it's hard to get drunk enough because of all the eating. I love the awkward moments with disliked family members, though, especially when it's not going to be my family, buy my girlfriend's.

The thing that annoys me is the durned CHRISTMAS MUSIC! It's starts the day after thanksgiving and it's rickin'-frackin' EVERYWHERE for over a month. Last year, I could feel the impending psychotic rage every time I heard, "SIMP-LY HAV-ING A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS TIME!" Oh, man, I was about to snap...

I wonder what song it'll be this year... It seems the masses pick one favorite each year to overplay. OH GOD, I KNOW WHAT IT'S GONNA BE! With the Dems taking control and vowing to end the war in Iraq, the overplayed Christmas song of 2006 is going to be: Happy Christmas (War Is Over) - By John Lennon!

The world just CAN'T get enough of the Beatle's Christmas songs. Let's all start singing it now!

"So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now..."

Happy almost-Thanksgiving y'all!!

I'm on the road myself, using a borrowed computer, so unless I feel the urge to use Paint, I won't be contributing any new toons until next week. But I can still contribute by making witty observations. Well, theoretically, anyway. :)
