So one part wasn't as bad as i was worried about.

Some lady from the job centre came and visited me today, i was worried about what it was for and all that, turned out out it was pretty boring basic stuff, updates to my details and checking everything is right and all that. *phew*

Hey, so I got accepted to my current university's PhD program. I'll be funded for five years, but ideally I can do it in four.

I went out with some friends to celebrate last night, and the friend who orchestrated the event instituted a "Kelsey has to drink all the shots that people buy for her" rule. It was...not the wisest rule.

Today I found I had difficulty urinating. Nope, this isn't related to any embarrassing medical condition. As I recently discovered, at 11pm, I had just been accidentally wearing my underwear inside-out all day.

It is showing up, on following it I found the formatting of the homepage to be a bit wonky:



As you can see, the About Us link is overflowing the right side of the red patch, meaning it blends into the white background. I guess it's a font rendering thing, although shouldn't be substituting the typeface for an alternative (it is Times New Roman, after all). I tried nudging the background around a bit, but it looks like the text just isn't scaled for it properly.

Also, the HRs look a bit ugly being inset over the background images. I humbly suggest a small tweak:



Perhaps that makes them too bold, though. Maybe lighten the colour or something. Or maybe have the image in an element and bring it in front of the HRs. I don't know; I'm no designer. Just some thoughts!

Of course nothing ever formats correctly on all browsers. (kicks self) I've tested it on two versions of Firefox, three versions of IE, plus Chrome and Safari on the PC so of course the Mac is unhappy. Hmmm I wonder how the iPhone ... ouch. Even worse! rickin'-frackin' eight million versions of rickin'-frackin' browsers ...

EDIT: I've edited the image so it should look a bit better. Still sucks on the iPhone. I'll tweak it a bit more tomorrow ...

Sorry to interrupt this scintillating discussion, but I'd like to announce that I have presented at my first academic conference. It was a really low-key affair hosted by my school's English department. All I had to do was stand up in front of one professor, a lot of my classmates, and a few grad students from other universities and read a paper, click through a PowerPoint presentation, and occasionally make eye contact with the audience. Then I answered questions and afterwards immediately went home.

I got an interview for a TEFL course (that's Teaching English as a Foreign Language). So we'll see. If I please them, I have the honour of giving them very most of my money and then spending more to be in London every day for a month. Whether that will actually take more money than I have left, we shall see. Borrowing from parents is possible, although not desirable.
