I'll be leaving for Dublin at the end of this month. I'm keeping myself busy with summer adventures and foxes here at home, but I'm getting more frequent nervous excitement about my trip.

Replace 'Dublin' with 'Chiang Mai', 'this' with 'next', 'foxes' with 'dementia patients', 'jvcc' with 'ntw3001'

That is also very exciting. What takes you there?

I'll be in Dublin for about a week, then London for a few days, then who knows. Possibly Oxford, if some friends of mine doing study abroad there let me stay with them. I also want to get up to Yorkshire to see the Brontë Parsonage Museum. And there's a national forest just outside Dublin that I'm planning on visiting. I'm always excited to wander around vast expanses of wilderness.

I'll be in Sweden from 2 – 9 July, but I'll be back in London after that if you want to experience in-person awkwardness.

I'll be in London from July 9 - 12, but am only free all day on the 10th and the evening of the 12th. It'd be fun to have a mini-Spamucon if one could be arranged.

Think I'm failing for someone at work, again. A different person than last time before you lot ask.

We get on really, really, really well. Nearly everyone has commentated on how well we get on, theres certainly a bit of a spark between us. I mean yeah, our chatting gets very flirty at times and such like. Plus she is drop dead sexy.

fork. Guess i'll go watch some Jada Fire porn and imagine its her. That sounds creepier than it is, since Jada Fire looks very much like her... No, wait, its still creepy.

Jazz has been seen, pictures have been taken--very begrudgingly, where some of us were concerned.

I spent a week in Dublin, have spent most of my time in London at my conference which I presented at today, and am leaving for a week in Edinburgh tomorrow. In some ways I'm ready to go home because I'm exhausted, but once I get my energy back and switch from academic mode to tourist mode again there will be a lot to keep me occupied.

so i went to feed my cats this morning (i have three) and two of them decided they were going to race to their bowls. usually it's just the one cat who races there because he wants to get to his bowl before the other cats push him away from it. as they were both running in front of me, i couldn't help but think "It's a race, it's a chase! Hurry up and feed their face!"

Aw, I remember when I was obsessed with him. Good times.

Back home from my overseas travels. Can't believe how much I packed into three weeks and three days. Phew.

Oh yeah, those. I hadn't even looked at them because I was kind of nervous of how stupid I'd look.

I think the photos probably serve as a useful gauge for how comfortable each of us is with photos. Although I am cheating a little with my fresh new haircut and rad jacket.

My left leg looks like crumpled paper which I am holding in the breeze.

You'll both be infinitely pleased to know that I cracked my tablet screen and thus cannot access, let alone upload, the photo of us I took with its front-facing camera.

I'm fine with being in un-posed photos (which some people hate for some reason). I just don't like having to react to being photographed at all. It often ends up looking stupid or otherwise bad.

People dislike candid photos because they are often unflattering, I think. In posed photographs, if people are so inclined, they can expend some effort to look nice (find good lighting, work their best angle, etc.). Even though we didn't take such pains with our posed photo, I think everyone in it looks fine and there's no need to be self-deprecating.

Yes. I didn't know what it was until I went to the V&A Museum a few days later and saw a model of it on display there.

I've been trying to tally up all the museums I went to in Dublin, London, and Edinburgh, and I think it's around seventeen or eighteen. The V&A is probably in my top five. I liked that it was a hodgepodge of stuff. The National Museum of Scotland is by far my favorite, though.

I get that, I suppose, but personally I often find it rather fake and weird. My sister, for example, is very photogenic, and will almost always look great in naturalistic photos, but she insists on putting on this exact same grin for photos, leaving me with a bunch of basically the same photo against different backgrounds. (Well, that's quite an exaggeration, but I'm trying to make a point here.) I mean, barring catching you half-blinking or making a weird expression while talking or whatever (which a kind photographer would delete anyway), candid photos are just capturing what the world sees anyway. Posing for things makes me feel very self-conscious, which I find counter-productive. To mirror what you said, I think posing generally makes me look worse, and that there's no need for people to be self-deprecating about candid photos of them. Even if I look bad in a candid photo, at least I wasn't trying and failing. Perhaps that says something about my personality.

Anyway, it's all a bit irrelevant, because there was no way that helpful stranger was going to take a non-posed photo of us without it being at least very weird and probably also incredibly creepy, so whatever.
