You know, I'd already thought about making a My Little Pony-based comic from that line, but I figured it would be too easy and obvious (I prefer my references to be as obscure and tenuous as possible ). Doesn't stop anyone else, of course, from making something good of it. Or me from using it (if not making anything good out of it) if I come up with something oblique enough.

This is why I'm glad I got into the show while staying away from said fandom, since those two things weren't want came to my mind when I saw that line (no offence intended to anyone who's a part of said group, it just isn't my style).

Aside from the fact that the people making it at least had men and adult women in mind in the first place, even if they weren't focusing on them?

Let me put it this way: The Adventures of Robin Hood is my favourite movie. It was made for people in 1938. Should I not watch it simply because I wasn't alive back then? Or should I never read, say, Don Quixote, because I'm not Spanish?

I can answer that. It's a cartoon, first and foremost, and a well-done cartoon at that compared to a lot of other stuff I've seen lately. And, as a person who likes cartoons, there's no reason for me to NOT watch it because it passes every litmus test I have for being a good animated show. The writing is the right mix of slap-stick jokes for the kids and pop-culture and TV jokes for the parents/older crowd, the animation is decent and so is the overall pacing, it's voice-acting is well done, the characters are simple and predicable (the geeky one, the shy one, the athletic one, etc) but not to the point of being 2 dimensional. It's a kids show, so you're going to get the standard moral-an-episode plot devices, but they manage to pull them off without hitting you over the head with them. And, for all the supposed talk of being "girly", in 2 seasons, nobody in the show has once mentioned trying to get a boyfriend or going shopping, and that's in a main cast that's 100% female with only 2 male characters that could be considered regulars... so it may topically look "girly" but it doesn't play that way if you actually watch it. In fact, I occasionally lose track of the gender of at least a few characters because it simply isn't important.

I was of the opinion that it couldn't possibly be THAT good when word of mouth started getting around that it was capturing a very large non-intended demographic, so I decided to watch 1 or 2 episodes of it to see what the fuss was.... and I was hooked.

Thanks for the input Low-tech! I have not watched the show yet, so I couldn't make any comments about it. I will try and check it out, as I still love cartoons, and see what the fuss is all about.
