Panorama

Postby Null » Thu May 16, 2013 11:56 pm

So, I've been doing some panoramic photography.

An early one, horizontal only

Trying some spherical ones. These two are pretty successful.

Glitches still pop up from time to time. Still, considering this one was handheld, not bad.

Looks like the monolith from "2001: A Space Odyssey" is about to take a swim.

I cannot look at them on my work computer. I will give them a look-see this weekend. :)

scrolling around is surreal to me, and then i look up and see a large gaping hole in the sky....

Wow, these are really cool! Are they made by stitching together photographs or did you use some special software?

Yeah, there's a free program from Microsoft called ICE that will stitch together photos that have some overlap. Basically, you put a camera on a tripod and shoot a complete circle, then change the angle and shoot the next circle down, etc. It's fun and doesn't take as long as you might think.

The program is a little hit or miss, and there doesn't seem to be a way to tell it "be smarter." Apparently you can export to PhotoShop and adjust there, and export back to PhotoSynth. I haven't done that yet.
