Tasty yum yums

I guess this is probably a better place to show off some of my cakes. And anyone else who likes to cook or bake, share your masterpieces!
Anyway, here's a cake I made:

Gorgeous work, though it looks "too pretty to eat". Do you get that a lot?

As to the first photo...didn't Jon Pertwee fight against that to free the universe or something?

Looks great, I just wanna ask: what food coloring you use for the mastic? I used some food coloring and the mastic turned out to be salty!

I've actually never used mastic. I use rolled fondant for covering and gum paste for sculpting. I always use gel paste colors, *never* liquid. My personal favorite brand is Americolor, but both Ateco and Wilton make pretty decent, flavorless gel paste colors as well.

That is so freaking (and tastingly) awesome, mulpis. It takes me forever just to work in two dimensions, you got a special talent for working in three!

That really is outstanding. I would feel guilty eating any of it, though.

No you you wouldn't. Its cinnamon brown sugar cake with pumpkin mousse filling and vanilla buttercream icing. It so scrummy.

I'm sure it's delicious. By "guilty," I mean I would think wow, this must have taken DAYS to make--and here I am scarfing down all this difficult work in mere moments. All that work, gone.

Yeah, its kind of a catch 22. Because if you do eat it, you destroy all the work that went into the outside, but if you don't, you waste all the work that went into the inside. I say eat up! Pumpkin mousse is heaven!

My kid loves penguins, so:

(By the way, it's hard to tell from the angle of this photo, but the blindfolded penguin is holding a stick, with which to break the polar bear pinata. That threw some people. They wondered if the polar bear was flying in to eat all the penguins and ruin the party.)

Again, I'd find it very hard to eat a slice of this...not because it wouldn't be tasty (I'm sure it would be) but because I'd be helping to destroy a masterpiece.

It's funny--I used to do elaborate frosting-paintings on various birthday cakes (there are photos around, some day I'll post them), and it never bothered me when folks sliced and served them. Heck, they were cakes, meant to be eaten. Seeing someone else's stellar work in the same realm, though, makes me want to preserve the image.

It's probably just the old half-Scarran, half-Sebacean thing kicking in again, though. Need different cooling rods, ha ha ha!

Once again, mulpis, you've created a 3D masterpiece. I love it!

You mentioned people missing the polar bear being a piñata. I think it's the color. A bright color, or if you could manage it, a stripe pattern, would make it obvious.

This is what I've been doing while trapped inside by this sub-zero arctic hell:

Here's a robot for a two year old's birthday:

Here's my niece's baby doll:

I'm partial to the violins myself, but everything looks fantastic.
