Fun Java Game - Minecraft

I've basically spent today building a giant suspension bridge while shouting 'screw you nature'.

Re: Fun Java Game - Minecraft
I built a doom fortress. It took a few days. Then I started new game, built a little island cottage and sailed over to the mainland to make a watchtower taller than the mountains. And there were beacons so I could find my way when I was sailing at night. And a jetty at each end, with a giant chest full of boats, because the boats keep breaking.

Re: Fun Java Game - Minecraft
I've been seeing so many youtube videos of amazing things people have built.
My favorite video though was a guy showing off his awesome log cabin and then accidentally burning it down.

I love this post so much I'm going to take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant!

Did you do that on alpha mode? I'm not sure how much of that I can do on the free version.

Re: Fun Java Game - Minecraft
Oh no no I used the free version too. It ain't nothing exciting, just blocks and blocks and some crafting. This may be of interest if you're puzzled about boat-building and such.

Wait you can craft in the free version? I was trying to figure out how. So: how? Let me play around with me some more.

I'm not sure, I don't think I can do any of those things in the free version. I'm almightily confused now. Still, I've still got my suspension bridge.

I bought the game. There. Much better. Did you guys see the video of the person who built a 1:1 SCALE MODEL OF THE U.S.S ENTERPRISE???? Massively ridiculous!!!! Here is the link.

Uh, feel free.
Right, right. You go into your inventory and put a block of wood into the foursquare box, and it turns into a pile of planks. Then you stick four planks together and it makes a crafting table, which you can put down in a place (you can pick it up again by smashing it). That gives you a ninesquare box, which you use to make all those other things like boats and hats and a mining pick. To make iron bars you need a smelter, which is made by putting stone blocks into every square but the central one. Then you drop the fuel (wood, coal or a bucket of lava) in the bottom box of the smelter and your iron (or gold, or sand) into the top, and it makes other thing!

This may seem silly, but I can't figure out how to craft. It is available in the free version, right?

Having looked at the minecraft wiki, it appears that you can't craft on the free version at all.

Left-click to remove stuff in front of you, right-click to place the block that's selected in the bottom of the screen. Scroll wheel to select an item from the screen. B to get more blocks.
The free version is REALLY simple, so I was kinda confused at first when the full version looked so different (judging by the videos, I'm probably not ever gonna pay for this).

Make wood:

Make box:

Make sticks:

Make pick (put down box and right click on it to use)

Then the link I posted before will show you how to make other useful things.
And here is a picture of my doom fortress, since I was there.

That's odd because I thought I had the free version. Maybe I inadvertently got involved with these 'free weekend' shenanigans.

Re: Fun Java Game - Minecraft
So I'm not being really stupid in not being able to craft stuff, cool.
I was just kinda like, how is this so fun just smashing blocks and placing blocks?
Also 10 EUROS?! that's...oh, only $13.63, plus whatever they charge me for foreign transaction fee. Meh.

Well, it can still be fun! There was a small group of people (me included) who worked on a map together and it became a big pile of all kinds of art and dungeons. A lot of pixel art and in-jokes mostly, but still.
I just found out that single player is a lot less fun, especially since I can't save my work unless I pay, anyway.

Nah, it can still be pretty fun. I built a building that went to the very top of the map and filled it with books. Then I built a giant statue of myself that can be seen from all parts of the map, especially the extra tall building.

Re: Fun Java Game - Minecraft
Guys, I have been going nuts on this game. My two most recent things:
I found a pattern for the sphere, and then added in the lava-ness. The skull thing is my moon!

And then I designed this all by me lonesome:

The thing hanging from the plane is the ladder that lets me in. It's my house!
