They probably wouldn't like my garden either...

So, Steve Jobs died. I'm not going to provide a link, as you can probably go anywhere and find the news story. K, bye.

I didn't read the words but I'm going to assume this is non-amusing news. But that's not why I'm posting it. It's the title, the part I did read. It was phrased better on the front page of BBC News, as 'Terror Fear Over Bird Flu Reports'. I picture scientists rushing around their labs knocking things over in a constant state of crazy-eyed terror-fear.

Oh, google, you're not helping the case against SOPA:

The full article is in the Wall street journal.

The full article is in the Wall street journal.

SOPA takes issue with online piracy, whereas Google has an issue with online privacy.

See what I've done there?

But really, when it comes to regulating the internet, I'd be all for policy makers stepping in and, say, telling Google they can't share people's personal information with a myriad of other websites without their consent.

Google's "Don't be evil" motto is a bunch of bullhonky, isn't it?

No, JVCC, in this article the issue with google is that they admited to helping illegal activities to be advertised to American citizens (In this particular case was illegal drug acquisition, which you may see how would relate to the SOPA thing). The privacy issue is a separate piece of news.

On the privacy note, I guess google and others have only as much information as you're willing to share, so I don't have much of an issue: I simply don't click on the ads. What does piss me off is that they automatically detect what part of the world I'm in, and modify my services according to that, not only advertisement, but search results and related content - I hate it, since 99% of the time I rather have the US content available to me.

The main problem with that phrase isn't so much that it's wrong; it's more that it's so hopelessly woolly as to be essentially meaningless. I wouldn't say they're significantly worse than other businesses of similar size, though.

the only way to accomplish this is to have an IP address which is located in the US. do you have any internet providers who will service your area which are based in the US?

#20 Gary, Ind.
Gary, located 25 miles from downtown Chicago, has been ravaged by the decline of its industrial base. Foreclosures and high crime continue to plague the area.

My first thought: Winthrop Paroo would be devastated by this news.

#12 Cleveland, Ohio
Things have brightened in our 2010 most miserable city as unemployment is below the U.S. average at 7.7% and home prices are off just 4% since 2008. Cleveland still makes the cut thanks to high taxes (income and property) along with lousy weather and sports teams.

#9 Rockford, Ill.

Property tax rates were fifth highest in the country in 2010. The median tax bill was $3,234 on home values of $136,000 for a rate of 2.4%.

This one is mine. I don't know why our taxes are so high, because none of our houses is nice.

Whenever I'm in a different city in Illinois and I mention where I'm from, people tend to respond, "Oh, I've...driven through there."

I saw the Cheap Trick guy, by which I mean the lead singer, at an art gallery once. He had a ponytail.

He played a couple of songs with a friend of mine's band a few years ago at this little venue in PA. He was an asswaffle.

He looked it.

Rockford is also the home of the sock monkey. And we used to be called The Screw City, or something, because a lot of screws were made here before all the factories went away. We are still called The Forest City even though Dutch elm disease took all of our impressive trees away some time in the previous century.

That is awful... but... I couldn't resist:
