Cool 8)

I'm experimenting with providing an rss feed. I know some folks only show up once in a great while because they don't know if there's anything new so I thought maybe this could help with that.

I think I've got most of the kinks worked out on the RSS feed. It finally shows up correctly on feedly, but it's still not quite right on My Yahoo! But unless I get some sort of response on the Yahoo Developers Forum (yeah there really is such a thing) it's as good as it's gonna get.

If ya wanna use it, head to the front page and hit the RSS icon next to the "Latest Comics" heading. Or rather, that works fine on Firefox. On Chrome I had to copy the link and paste it into feedly or whatever.

Have you subscribed? Feedly told me I would be the first subscriber, and then it started a think that has gone on for a few minutes now with a grey-tones screen. Looks frozen.

EDIT: Ok, it ended up working :)

There are a couple of my comics in the 'Missing in Action' board, but they both loaded with no problem for me?

I thought that, but I'm seeing them on a new laptop that I haven't actually seen them on before.

Sorry I didn't get respond right away. So anyways, what Ian said. Lemme know which ones and I'll take care of it.

Yeah, im seeing them. I think the reason they are in the missing comics section is because you added the reuploaded versions as a second image, instead of replacing the first.

Ian is indeed correct. The program I wrote to look for bad links (there are far too many comics to do this by hand) just saw the broken image links and made its decision from that. I have moved both threads back to the main comics forum and edited the posts to get rid of the old broken links.

So, how's the advertising working? Let's look at clicks first.

MSP Fans was the first one I tried. That attracted 57 unique clicks through to the main spamusers.com page over the course of a week or so. Well, it was really cheap at the time so I guess no big deal there.

SMBC did the best. We got 1,244 unique clicks out of the 6,884,700 page views that SMBC got during the week that ad ran. I only ran it a week because it was by far the most expensive. Half of everything I've spent to date was that one week.

QC has been the best value. I just bought a little button ad, which is sandwiched down in an obscure corner of the page amongst other little button ads. But because of its relatively low price I've let it run off and on this whole time. It has attracted 1,244 unique clicks to our site out of just 2,966,450 QC page views. This ad is by far the best value of the lot.

Oh, and I ran an ad for a week on Optipess but only got 28 clicks out of it so I let that ad lapse after a couple of weeks.

I've also ran an ad on Gunnerkrigg Court off and on that's currently off because the bidding has run the price way high right now. The main reason I'm running this ad is that GC is by far my favorite thing on the internet right now and I'm happy to support him even though we've only gotten 200 clicks out of it.

So we've gotten 3,048 clicks to our main page from five different sites. As I'm sure everyone has noticed we have not attracted any new members, which I must admit makes me a bit depressed. And that facebook "like" button? Every single cartoon back through late March that I looked at read a solid "0". Sigh. :|

That's rather disappointing (although the number of clicks from QC seems good). All those people who will never get the chance to meet ntw3001.

What about finding flash drawing forums or the like that run ads?

Well on a more positive note, I decided to have a click through the old comics on the main page using the random button and I enjoyed it an awful lot. They're excellent.

I'm really not sure why it hasn't gripped new visitors.

I am open to running ads on other sites if anyone has any suggestions. Assuming the site runs "Project Wonderful" ads.

I suppose I could try out the evil google ... From what I understand you don't specify particular sites with google ads, but rather you try to qualify the "type" of sites you want.

Hmm. Well, I know the Let's Play Archive does, as I go there sort of frequently. I don't know if this is true of every site that runs them, but this one explicitly encourages whitelisting their ads.

(As a side note, I recall a commentator on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Master Quest mentioning that he enjoyed Spamusement, though when that was and whether he was referring just to Steven's comics or to us as well, I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure it was a Forest Temple video, though.)
